Our Founder

I believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.

Alicia Montgomery is the Founder and Executive Director of The Qween Foundation Inc. She was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, and attended D. M. Therrell High school. She graduated from Savannah State University with her Bachelors of Business Administration Degree in Management. In 2019, she was awarded the President's Second Mile Award at graduation for her remarkable leadership on campus, in the Savannah community and beyond. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters of Business Administration in Human Resources Management and aspires to be an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist.

Alicia is an avid supporter of women's empowerment. Her own personal battle with mental health and wellness inspired her to start this organization. After surviving her own suicide attempt, she decided to get the help she needed. Through therapy, sports management, and the desire to set a positive example for her younger siblings, Alicia found her motivation and her Spark.

It was four years after her attempt that Alicia went to therapy. Prior to that, she worried about how to afford therapy as well as not wanting to trigger other family members who also deal with types of depression. In reality, like many of us, she wasn't ready for her help yet. Actress Jenifer Lewis has commented on this feeling that many of us struggle with, being quoted with saying "I know what mental illness looks like, and I know that if a person is not ready to get help, they won't."

That quote and Alicia's own experience with therapy inspired her to start this foundation. During that interview, it struck Alicia how proud and unashamed Jenifer Lewis was when talking about her struggles. Her goal is to provide that help to other women through this foundation by eliminating the stigma and shame that has been placed around mental health and wellness. The journey towards healing always starts with an openness and vulnerability, and that's what Alicia hopes to spread through this foundation.
